» New 18-holes at La Zagaleta

La Zagaleta

La Zagaleta has recently unveiled a brand new 18-hole golf course, ‘Los Barrancos de la Zagaleta’, bringing the tally of courses within the 900 hectare private resort up to two. Designed by international course architects, Gaunt & Marnoch, Los Barrancos de la Zagaleta took more than three years to construct at an investment of 20 million euros. To give an idea of the complexity of the project, more than 2 million cubic metres of rock and earth had to be moved whilst a tunnel had to be constructed under the practice course to transport golfers to the new Clubhouse.

As is the case with its sister course designed by Bradford Benz, simply named La Zagaleta, this new course has been adapted to the wonderful wild Andalusian environment and not vice versa. The natural flora and fauna of the ‘finca’ have been respected and integrated at all times. Los Barrancos de la Zagaleta wends its way across 65 hectares of the estate, a mighty 7% of the land area.

"La Zagaleta is a privileged residential resort set in the Benahavís Hills at 450 metres above sea level"

The name ‘Los Barrancos’ signifies the ‘gullies’ or ‘ravines’ that it crosses and is indicative of the challenge that faces resident golfers. Stood at the tee, players have various options open to them and the greater risk taken, the greater the possible reward, but regardless of handicap all golfers are rewarded by unparalleled views across the Costa del Sol and over to North Africa beyond. Indeed, Director of Golf at La Zagaleta, Jacobo Cestino, believes that the way Gaunt & Marnoch have combined a mountain course with strategically located bunkers evokes the spirit of some of the best Scottish links courses - praise indeed.

La Zagaleta

La Zagaleta is a privileged residential resort set in the Benahavís Hills at 450 metres above sea level. Founded in 1991 on the former estate of Saudi multimillionaire Adnan Khashoggi, the community now comprises 420 private villa plots ranging between 3,000m2 and 15,000m2 in area. Local rules dictate a minimum separation of 10 metres green zone between plots to allow freedom of movement for the native fauna of the ‘finca’ namely stag, deer and mouflon. This separation also enhances privacy between neighbours.

The resort is unique in Europe, not only for its stunning location, but also for the quality of facilities which are for the exclusive use of residents and their invited guests. 36 holes of golf aside, La Zagaleta also offers a restaurant, tennis, fishing and a private Riding Club boasting pure Arab and Spanish horses, four arenas, livery for the Club’s horses as well as stabling for privately owned horses. It is estimated that since inception 16 years ago, more than 1,200 million euros have been invested into the project.

Prices start from 750,000 euros for a 4,000m2 plot.

Casta de la Luz

In response to a marked increase in the proportion of lifestyle rather than investment buyers in southern Spain over recent months, Titan Properties is expanding its ‘ready to move in’ resale portfolio by adding the Punta Coral townhouse development in El Rompido. The western Costa de la Luz specialists are confident of Punta Coral’s appeal to northern Europeans and do not expect the properties to linger on the market too long.

Andrew Benitz, Director of Titan Properties, comments, "Whilst the Costa del Sol off-plan investment market is all-but-dead, prices in western Costa de la Luz are still showing annual increases of 10 to 15% making the off-plan proposition more than viable. Likewise we have some fabulous top-quality, low-density projects nearing completion and the prices are extremely affordable in comparison with the Algarve to the west and the Costa del Sol to the east."

As little as five years ago the western Costa de la Luz encompassing the province of Huelva, was little more than deserted wide white sandy beaches, working fishing villages and open countryside. Whilst this undoubtedly suited some, most northern European tourists may have tired of the simplicity. Today, gradual and sensitive development has resulted in a choice of five and four star hotels, a fine selection of firstrate golf courses, new marinas and carefully planned and licensed residential property construction. The western Costa de la Luz is now undoubtedly attractive to all types of holidaymakers as well as northern Europeans seeking somewhere warm and inviting for semi-permanent or permanent living. Punta Coral is a strong option.

Punta Coral comprises a series of compact townhouse developments with no more than 50 units in each. The three bedroom properties all have views to their community lake-pool and, thanks to an elevated position, down to the sea. Each development is gated, has immaculately maintained landscaped gardens, paddle tennis court and underground parking. The townhouses themselves combine traditionally Spanish exteriors with modern internal layouts and features. Features include three bedrooms with built-in wardrobes, three bathrooms (one en-suite), fitted kitchens, Porcelanosa tiling and a private terrace and small garden accessed via floor-to-ceiling French windows from the lounge.

Punta Coral is within walking distance of the fishing village of El Rompido famed for its mouthwatering seafood. El Rompido also has two Alvaro Arana designed 18-hole golf courses, the south inaugurated in 2003 and the north in 2006, a five star and a four star hotel - one managed by the Set Hotel group and the other by El Fuerte. It even has a marina fringed with lavish million euro plus villas complete with private berths and fashionable bars and trendy boutiques. The marina is one of four planned for the area. All of this is within walking distance from Punta Coral so you can enjoy a glass of guilt-free Spanish tinto and leave the car at home. Seville and Faro International Airports are both approximately an hour from El Rompido.

Prices from 285,000 euros for a three bedroom townhouse.
